What is the Patient Asset Visibility Exchange (PAVE) ?

Many studies have shown that technology has been responsible for doubling US Health Care costs over last two decades (from $2T to $4T). That includes Information Technologies (IT), described more fully in Item 2 below. This is not true in any other industry - Health Care may be the only “upside down” industry where technology always, in the end, seems to raise costs.

Visibility Technologies (VT) represents a new set of capabilities that may change that. VT automates many things, within any work environment, without process change, at a low cost. VT can be based on many wireless technologies. Some wireless technologies, such as RFID or Wi-Fi, often have problems with steel and water, EMI, or may require manual data entry that have led to problems in Healthcare (see JAMA). The PAVE project is based on RuBee, IEEE 1902.1. RuBee is a new international wireless standard for visibility that works in harsh environments, has minimal EMI, and requires no process change. RuBee is based on magnetic communication, not on radio signals. It has been clearly shown that VT networks can cut hospital costs by 20-30% - VT makes a dramatic difference in patient flow (can increase number of patients per day by 20-30%) and cut disposable logistics costs by the same amount.

PAVE is an industry wide project sponsored by Visible Assets, GHX, Oracle and others to create a new VT standard for patients, patient flow, and high value health care assets.
